Membership Questions
How much do you charge to join?
We believe our membership fees are an incredible value. For $100 plus a one-time initiation fee of $100, you get unlimited access to both of our flying fields for an entire year. We also offer partial year, youth and family memberships at very reasonable rates. Active Service members can join for free with proper identification.
Can anyone join?
Anyone with an AMA membership can join and there are no age requirements.
Why is AMA membership required?
Membership in the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) is required for a number of reasons. Our AMA Charter requires that all members be a member of the AMA. Being a member of AMA also provides you with insurance including $2.5 million in liability coverage. The AMA also provides the rules and standards that keep our activities safe and fun for all involved. The AMA also represents us before various governmental agencies like the FAA and others that could hinder our ability to enjoy our hobby.
I am a member of MAAC. Do I still need to be a member of AMA?
Yes, The AMA no longer has a reciprocal arrangement with MAAC (Model Aeronautics Association of Canada). You must be a member of the AMA to fly at our facilities.
Isn’t AMA membership expensive?
If I don't renew my membership by January 31st is there a late fee?
No. Annual renewals must be paid by December 31st or there is a $20 late fee. This provides an incentive for members to pay their annual dues on time. However, you do not have to pay the initiation fee again as long as you were a member within the last 24 months After that, an initiation fee is charged.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, if you pay your dues through PayPal, you can use a credit card. A 4% service charge is added to offset the cost of PayPal processing.
Do I have to pass a test to demonstrate my flying ability?
No, there are no tests. Pilots of all flying ability use our fields including those who are just beginning. We only ask that you abide by AMA and club safety rules and use your best judgment. If you are a new pilot, it is good to get help from other members who are often more than willing to provide it. After all, that is what being part of a club is for – the opportunity to learn from other’s experience.
Do you have membership meetings?
