The Coachella Valley Radio Control Club held their 6th Annual Desert Warbirds event on January 13th and 14th. Hemet Model Masters members Carl Lindou and Robert Binkley placed 2nd and 3rd place in the WWI competition. Carl also received an honorable mention. See below for details on the winning planes.

Carl Lindou’s 1/3 Scale Fokker Triplane – Second Place Finisher

Carl Lindou’s 1/3 Scale Fokker Triplane. It’s a Balsa USA Kit with a 3W70 for power.

Robert Binkley’s 1/3 Scale Nieuport 28 – Third Place Finisher

Robert Binkley’s beautiful 1/3 scale Nieuport 28 won third place in the WWI competition. This particular plane was purchased at the 2016 AMA show for $150. It was in bad shape at the time. The tail had been broken off, the fuselage was broken in the middle, the right lower wing was missing, both wing tubes were bent, the cowl destroyed and the landing gear bent and broken.  Robert took it to a friend who helped replace some parts, cover in solartex and painted it.  The completed plane weighs in at 38 lbs and is powered by a Desert Aircraft 70cc engine. The pilot was purchased from Aces of Iron (http://www.acesofiron.com/) and painted by Ruben Garcia.

Carl Lindou’s 1/4 Scale Tucano – Honorable Mention

Carl Lindou also received an honorable mention at the competition for this beautiful 1/4 scale TUCANO from Phoenix Models. It is powered by a Desert Air 50 but Carl is currently putting an EME 60 now.
